CD: The Blessing of Curses

Review:

Not often do I stray from the safe confines of the metal realm, but Voodou gave me passage into another realm. I found myself in a realm of electronic industrial goth stylings, beauty, and Voodou. A realm that created a canvased sound painting. It was a surreal and dark picture filled with chaos and disorder. It allowed me to bang my head to the beautifully articulate beats and the near thrashing guitars, in a chaotic sense that was very comforting. I have a passion for great music. Raised on metal and finding out that goth, metal, and electronic music were individually categorized, yet still had this free-for-all area which is gray for all the genres was great. One could seem to safely bounce around in this area and avoid the boring genre labels. Michelle Walters is the beautifully voiced siren that carries the band on her darkened angel wings and still maintains opened arms to draw the audience into her world of Voodou. Laying the soundscape behind this siren is Waylon Bayard on the Voodou drums, Billy Miller on bass, and Chad Wilder. Chad is the master of many beacause he plays guitar, the dulcimer, and a mandolin. The band has changed around a little but this is the current, and possibly the strongest incarnation of Voodou. Now I will stress that their release "The Blessing Of Curses" is a phenominal album, BUT the album in no way expresses the intensity, and power that Voodou contains and releases on stage. Voodou seems to be a Pandora's box of sorts and definitely a band that feeds off the audiences frenzied dancing and well deserving appreciation towards the band. The underground act Voodou has the capability to break out into the music scene like a wild fire. This is one band I'd highly recomend trying out for those moments when you require something unique and uplifting in the depressing sense. I mean that to be a good thing. Voodou's "The Blessing of Curses," will be one CD I keep near my computer for those lonely nights when i got a good buzz and im just real unsure what my place in this world of shit, drama, and war!
