Review:
In a world filled with commercialization and desensitizing of the human mind, comes a superb underground act from Columbia, Mo. named SLUGTRAIL. Right off the bat I'll tell you that i had the pleasure of seeing SLUGTRAIL in concert last night, 4/25/03 @ St. Louis', Creepy Crawl. As i reflect upon the show i also am listening to their 6 song disk that is simply named "SLUGTRAIL". SLUGTRAIL is an upstanding member of Heavycore.org and also many other underground institutions.
There are three members in this explosive metal act. The sounds do change from slow to fast and are extremely cool to party with on your favorite vice. Seeing SLUGTRAIL live is best, as in most band situations. Gives you a feel more of the intensity, violence, and emotion displayed by these musical masters. I may step out on a limb on this but i do personally feel that there are some stoner metal blood in these freaks. Quite frankly i remember a few times last night, slowly banging my head, rather entranced. "Soil Calls My Name" was one such song that this happened during. Out of this stoney stop-n -go grind you get this wall of sound that crashes out on you and tosses you into a pit style rage. Wow, that is an example of that intensity i mentioned. For those of you who get off on staring at the musicians during the gig, you know the ones on the side of the stage and not in front, you need beware of the power of Slugtrail!!! Whiplash could befall your unknowing self. I know it happened to me. Wes Huton the drummer, Brian Craig singer/ and bassist and Bryon Martin the guitarist seem to beckon you to the stage and grab a hold of you with some catchy lil groove and then side swipe your ass with a fucking semi going over 100 miles an hour. Shit, Brian's fingers schizophrenically played on his bass and reminded me of the Iron Chef people who can cut 10lbs of potatoes in 3 seconds into dust. Fast and furious people. Just glad to see a killer band that has the ability to show how multi-faceted their talents and interests are.
I give the SLUGTRAIL CD a full two horns up, and as for their show and stage presence.....imagine a room full of horns saluting. SLUGTRAIL does seem to be a name that you will need to remember, as you will be seeing them around more and more.
