Review:
I have heard references to Dimmu Borgir when describing Mystic Circle, with one reviewer even going so far as to say that this particular release is a complete Dimmu Borgir rip off. How wrong those people are. While I love the aforementioned band, I only hear the slightest tinges of them come through on "Infernal Satanic Verses". And I am sure that is only because of the particular subgenre that both bands reside in. Mystic Circle on this release manage to capture everything that I love about Symphonic Black Metal; the darkness, brutality, beauty, melody, and rage. Track one ("Intro - The Daemon's Call") sets the scene for their worship of the Horned One. The vocals are performed with a clarity that is rarely heard in this style of music, making most of the lyrics accessible to those without a lyric sheet, even on a first listen. They utilize a female vocalist on here, which brings to mind mild traces of Cradle Of Filth. I have to give a huge "Horns up!" to the guitarists, as well. The solos throughout are very well thought out. They stay in the realm of being important instead of masturbatory, and every one fits the song's context. There is so much more I could write about this, but it would be in your best interests just to go out and buy this and judge it for yourselves. Hails to Mystic Circle for a truly satisfying album!
