Review:
Like creeping back into the darkened corners of your mind, I find myself in the attic searching for a dusty and rickety old box known as "the music archive." Upon retrieving the treasure I desire, I pull out a red and heavily dusted CD. Blowing off the top layer of years of funk and possible decay and then wiping off the next layer of crusted dust, I notice this is a LOW TWELVE CD from early Feb. 1999. The title is "Blunt Force Trauma." What an appropriate title for this 4 song E.P. It is very short but just as brutal and heavy as a mallet blow to the head.
This first installment from metal brutalizers, LOW TWELVE contains a unique line-up never to be repeated by the band again. Pummeling the bass and belting out these anthems is one of two remaining members Pete "Poser Disposer" Altieri, who is the founder of LOW TWELVE. The other remaining member of this troupe de force is Les "Kill Floor Kid" AKA "Mr. I have a million Thor shirts" Aldridge, who is one helluva guitarist. Complimenting Les is the phenomenal ex-guitarist and LOW TWELVE co-founder ,Tim "who's the cock of the walk now mother fuckers?" McCleland. Backing these aggressive thrash metal styled freaks on the abused skins is Steve Chesney.
Upon dropping "Blunt Force Trauma" in my CD player, a loud voice comes blaring out of my speakers, telling tales of crime and murder that were committed and the insaniac who is just discovering a "trophy" from one of his "little excursions." This is the intro track named "Someone Else's Blood." As this voice sets the scene for the rest of the CD, weird guitar like screams and other acidlike sounds make the background soundscape which is interrupted by hysterical laughter, which I assume to be the killer realizing the joy he had taken in achieving his "trophy."
Song two is "Man With Spots." Starting out with a nice bass line, this song is quickly picked up with a march like feeling. The song, to me seems to be about things that we fear, but maybe unknown or unseen. Kind of like a boogyman or other nightmarish creatures that would make you pick your feet off the floor quickly as a child when your parents were turning out the lights. Those damn "under the bed" monsters. Not one of the strongest songs on the disk as far as brutality but still a killer song.
Number 3 is a classic track named, "Begging To Die." A lovely ditty about Jack Kevorkian and the controversy that surrounds him. He was viewed as "an angel to some, it seems a demon to the rest." This song starts out with a crunchy and lurchy styled guitar and bass combo. Then gets a more quickened pace as the song progresses. Lots of excellent guitar riffs in this track.
"I don't remember killing anyone, but I must have because they found the bodies in the crawl." What an intro to my favorite track off this E.P. The song is "Crawlspace." It is about our favorite little killer clown, John Wayne "Pogo" Gacy and the 33 bodies they found below his house, in the crawlspace. Quite the thrashy number and catchy as a mother fucker!!!! I could, and have, listened to this song over and over again. Can't go wrong!! What metal freak doesn't like serial killers and songs about them. Especially heavy metal songs about serial killers.
What more can i say about LOW TWELVE and their first E.P. "Blunt Force Trauma"? It rocks, has great lyrical content, and a nostalgic feel about it. I recommend finding it and checking it out. If you don't your a little scaredy face poser faggot and you need to be in LOW TWELVE's crawlspace!!
