Review:
WARNING: The following review will be full of colorful and descriptive, very adult words.
That being said, please allow me to begin this review with two little words: HOLY SHIT!! This band is fucking awesome!! That’s it, that’s my review.
But you wanna know why don’t ya? Well, it’s like this..one day, at band camp, I received a short sampling of brutality in the mail. As I opened it up, I was at first awed by the insane and highly creative artwork on the cover of the album. Then I opened and read the bio/promo and became intrigued as I noticed that this band featured 2 bass players, and 2 drums/percussionists, as well as guitar and vocals. I read a little further and it says, The band breathes in the pain, suffering, pleasure and joy that each member experiences and breathes out a firestorm of beautiful aggression. That’s fucking deep man! I read the rest of the bio, blah, blah, descriptive words, some warnings, influences, and then, at the bottom, the last sentence says simply this: Prepare yourself for the brutalful sounds of Human Ritual. I did just that, and so should you because as I opened the very professional jewel case, I caught a glimpse of an equally impressive CD that slid easily into the precious slot on my player. I cranked the volume, the tracks lit up, and GO! emanated from my speakers followed by quite literally, sheer brutality at it’s finest. And I mean that sincerely, this band has it all, and I think someday will rock the metal world. Musically, it’s aggressive, forceful and passionate with a super low end that is actually mixed and mastered correctly enough to just leap out of the speakers at you clearly enough to accent, not drown, the masterful guitar work. The guitarist is exceptionally fast, brutally heavy, and mutes with technical precision, no overs, no spills. The music features excellent hooks, creative bridges and rapid changes, all tied together seamlessly and flawlessly by the drums and percussions. There is no hole left unfilled here. As the music is tight and incredibly good, the vocals are as well. The vocalist has a killer range, and can actually sing, growl, scream, yell, and shout with ANYBODY! And he does all that with the added benefit of lyrical genius, and I quote from the third song, and my favorite from the disk entitled Mansect: We are a project of ignorance, a disease that can kill almost anything, a breed of destruction, a wrath of hypocrisy, growing and feeding on hate and prejudice. And it gets better than that, and deeper. I believe that what lies in Topeka, KS is a metal beast ready to take over the world, and it’s name is Human Ritual. I’m hooked. I will be following this band and sincerely hope to someday share a stage with them. I found them to easily live up to their boast of brutaful and absolute purity in this life we know as metal. This is metal at it’s best.
Until next time.......Keep it Heavy!!
