Well we waited and waited just like we did with NILE, OPETH, MORBID ANGEL etc... Can they top it? Can they top their masterpiece? "Puritanical" was no doubt the best thing DIMMU ever put forth on us.
This record, hands down, is as exceptional as their last effort--full of great keyboard passages, blistering drum work from Nick "Uncle Fester" Barker, and the band is in top form with a steady line-up including the 48-piece orchestra that played with them on "Puritanical."
However, like the best sex in your life, like the time you actually talked your girlfriend into wearing the wonder woman costume and tying you up with the golden lariat and forcing you to tell her the truth.....ooops sorry... The best cannot be beaten, only met in a competition. OPETH, NILE, MORBID ANGEL... Yeah, they have done their best and cannot, without changing styles, offer us anything more than great records every single time.
Dimmu has now achieved black metal nirvana and will hold a special place in the heart of Satan forever, I am sure. But if you’re asking can they beat this, while you anxiously wait on the next DIMMU record, see if you can talk your girl into a Catholic schoolgirl outfit. And there ya go!
