Review:

Hot damn! Where oh where are all these killer bands coming from? Is there like a spawning bed for mutant metal maniacs or what? Case in point: Cavitation. By definition-The formation of partial vacuums in a flowing liquid as a result of the separation of it’s parts; when these collapse, pitting or other damage is caused on metal surfaces in contact. In this case, I believe the flowing liquid to be a metaphor for the perfect and flowing rhythms of this band, that will, without doubt, cause pits and massive damage to those metal-heads in contact. This is good, solid metal, the way it should be done. Cavitation is a five piece metal band with a decidedly old school thrash sound. Very heavy, very deliberate, skating the edge of doom with lots of nice bass work, perfectly timed and unique intros that set the mood meter on "head-bang". Their CD, entitled Laughing at the Ruin, is 6 tracks checking in at 23:19, the first track being a killer innovative intro instrumental. Track 2 picks up the pace and puts a nice spotlight on the abilities of the lead guitarist, weaving a nice intricate backdrop against a heavy foreground of deliberation in the rhythm section. While continuing on through the next 4 songs, I find their creativity and imagination awesome, while still retaining an easy to follow, and highly metal atmospheric wave of sound. The drummer is brutal and the music they are doing seems to suit his abilities to a tee. The band is tight and led along by the killer growling vocals of frontman Chaz Hinds whose vocals are entirely understandable, but still as heavy as it gets. I truly enjoyed this album, and it is one that will make a regular rotation in my player. Make it a point to check out Cavitation.
