Interview:

Hail, guys. Thanks for taking the time to talk about things in the world of Dagoba. What inspired you to choose the name Dagoba?

Dagoba: It's a short name, ending by an "A", easy to remember, and first of all it sounds great to us. No special signification.

You cite influences of Machine Head and Fear Factory, but I can also hear a smattering that brings to mind good old thrash bands like Sacred Reich. Is that something you guys are into, or is this just something that popped up?
Dagoba: The four of us listen to MANY kinds of metal, from glamrock to black metal. We've been listening to those types of music since we're kids, and even if machine head or fear factory could be cited, we also are listening to metallica, skinlab, dimmu borgir, slayer, emperor, guns'n'roses...we're really into music, and we try to discover new bands everyday!

Who does most of the writing? Or is this a collective effort?
Dagoba: I write 80% of the music, and all the lyrics, but we arrange everything together: the structures and stuff...but we feel good with this way of composing.

How would you compare "What Hell Is About" to your previous releases?
Dagoba: Much more mature, darker, faster, heavier...I mean: our goal is to progress as persons and as musicians. The feelings that we put into our
music grow up just like we do. we try to express more correctly the music we got in our minds.. and becoming older, learning about ourselves
seems to be the key to reach that point.

In this world of labels, I can see people trying to label your music as "hardcore". Would you agree with that statement?
Dagoba: Our label (season of mist) also had a hard time labeling our music, lol so...call it as you want, but keep in mind that it's furious and dark!!!!!

In the song "Livin' Dead", the intro almost puts me in mind of a zombie type movie? Do you guys draw any inspiration from movies or other sources?
Dagoba: Definitely!!! I love watching movies of any type! Movies inspire me with a lot of feelings, and the images tend to inspire much more than
music...I cannot explain that, but that's the way it is and yes!! I love zombie movies!!

How do you guys feel about the resurgence of the metal scene? Did that have any effect on your music?
Dagoba: I don't know if there's any effect on our music...while composing, I try not to listen to music...so I'm a bit late with the new trends!! But if one day metal could be the number one music style, I could die the day after!!

Do you guys have any intention to tour the United States in the near future?
Dagoba: Not yet, but I'm very excited about the idea dude!! We're ready and free to do it, so spread the word!! ;)

I'm going to give you guys the floor, so you can tell the fans anything you'd like them to know about Dagoba. Again, thanks for sitting down and talking to me.
Dagoba: Thank you for your support. Hope you'll enjoy our album "What Hell Is About".
