BIO:

Harkonin was formed in January 2002 by Jason Barron (Vocals), Drake Poeschel (Guitars), and Mike Evans (Drums) with the idea of bringing a different style of Black Metal to their impoverished St. Louis Metal scene. The trio immediately began to write material and seek musicians to complete the lineup. Bassist, Tom Quach, joined in May and scene veteran Lael Clark (Guitars) was recruited in June.

One month after solidifying the lineup, the band recorded their first 3-song promo CD, containing the tracks "Godless Inhabitation", "Tyrants of The Baphomet", and "Prayer of Hypocrisy". 250 copies of the disc were pressed and sold within the year. Though a raw representation of the band, the promo was nevertheless well recieved, obtaining local radio airplay and mention in several prominent metal zines throughout the country. Harkonin supported the promo's release playing a host of local and out-of-state shows.

In March of 2003, Harkonin entered Red Light Studios to record their debut full-length album. After a lengthy delay, the album deemed to become "Seductress Of The Unlight" was officially released in August of 2003. By this time founding member, Mike Evans, had left Harkonin to take up residence in Chicago in order to attend law school. Although a major blow to the band, Harkonin fought on and soon filled the void on the throne with power-house Clayton Gore from the legendary band Eulogy .

With the first year behind them, two CDs released, a bit of critical acclaim, and numerous shows under their belts, Harkonin have established themselves as a force to be reckoned with in the metal world. Ever prolific, the band already has new material in the works. Fusing Nordic Black Metal with Teutonic Thrash riffs, Harkonin creates a sound unlike their American counterparts, devoid of any Death Metal or Gothic influences. Expect another studio album in early 2004 and keep an ear turned to listen for the stampede of Harkonin charging on as they unleash hell across America with "Seductress Of The Unlight" and a myriad of even darker and faster new tunes.

REVIEW:

Ghastly visions of orchestrated demon spawn awakening from the lake of fire is just the beginning. Enter Harkonin with the world renowned "Godless Inhabitation." As the band says, " surrounded in discordant melodies of hate and blasphemy!" The new CD, "Seductress of The Unlight" from the midwestern minstrels of mayhem is an 11 song sacrifice to the gods of darkness. With clean growling vocals and rampant drums, the Beast has to embrace this offering. With themes of misanthropy and extreme blasphemy, Harkonin blasts out one song after the other. There is no justice that words can bring to the album. It is one of my favorites and has not left my CD player for the few months i have had it, awaiting a way to describe the beauty of the album to you. A few of my favorite songs are, title track, "Seductress Of The Unlight," "Armageddon 666" and " Exiled Into Damnation." " Seductress of the Unlight" has the classic black metal sound and is riddled with a stampede of excellent drumming and the calming rollercoaster of frenzied guitars that in my opinion make a great song. "Armageddon 666" is a perfect anthem for current times. I can only hope that all my sins will kindly be repaid by this song being played as my body gets scorched from the Bush induced destruction that awaits our culture. This is a fiery song of damnation containing lyrics that demand your attention!! Such words as "This is the apocalypse, total fucking war, generals of hate, recreated fate, total fucking war!" Lovers of heavy, heavy fucking shit will love this song. Then there is "Exiled Into Damnation." This song remind me of a well bred frozen classic from the land of Norway. There is no way in fucking hell to pass up this CD. Help kindle the flames of hell with another well deserved CD of mass metal cruelty!
