BIO: Animated Dead formed in 1990 and released their first demo "Animation of the Dead" in 1991. In their early years the band shared the stage with Death, Gorefest, Sacrifice, and many more. In 1994 the band parted ways only to be reanimated in 2000 by founding members Spence Riggle and Rik Geib along with new drummer Jeff Riggle.The band has just released a new demo "Blasphemous Grinding Bliss" and are actively playing shows throughout the Midwest. Animated Dead remain one of the few death metal bands still alive in the St. Louis area!!!! |

Hail and greetings to one one of St Louis's oldest and best death metal bands. In the year 2k the skies turned black, the ground began to tremble under foot and St. Louis had to brace itself for THE RETURN OF THE ANIMATED DEAD.
How is it going? |
Everything is going good, writing new material and looking to do some local and out of town shows coming up in the Fall. Feels good to be back from the dead! |

How did your c.d. release party go?

Real good turnout, brutalized the crowd and received thanks for doing so. Sold a lot of cds |

What do ANIMATED DEAD consider there main influences? |
Possessed, Morbid Angel, Slayer, Entombed (left hand path) Disrupt, Suffocation, Motown Grindcore and thrash |

I see you have been touring the midwest quite a bit, do you have any cross country tours planned for the near future? |
We’re trying to book some shows in Chicago, Indy, and Milwaukee We need to play more out of town shows to spread the brutality!!!!!!!!!!! |

I wondered what happened to the band, I used to enjoy seeing you play, what was the reason ANIMATED DEAD broke up in '94, and what made you to decide to reanimate the band? |
Pete left to play guitar in another band , Spence was involved in other projects…Rik and Todd tried to keep it going but everything fell apart… This is actually the third coming, in 98 AnimatedDead rose from it's grave but never made it out of the basement. Then in 2000 AD rebuilt it's foundation and refused to be dormant in the midwest scene. Spence being the soul reanimator of all three. We felt that St. Louis needed some brutal music back in the scene not this new metal bullshit!!!!!!!!! |

Were you are Rik involved in any other bands or any music at all between '94 to 2k? |
Spence played bass for a band called Clear Glass Religion, Rik stayed involved in music for a short time by jamming with some of the guys that would later become Pale Gray. |

How has the fan response been since you started playing again? |
Better and getting better. People mostly compliment on the tightness of the band. The pit speaks for itself. |

Jeff Blaastphemous Riggle, a horrendous grindcore comedian who steps beyond his mortal limits. Very dedicated musician…….likes it fast ……..brutal …….crusty……..and definitely grinding!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

It seems amusing to me that this band has been kicking my ass in the mosh pit since the early 90's at the old Club 367, here in Mizery (Mo). The band has taken a hiatus once upon a time and seemed to be left at the streetside like the St. Louis metal scence. Only to be arisen from beyond their grave and start the brutality once again. Animated Dead is pretty much the only old skool death metal band left in St. Louis.
Animated Dead has released for our sick pleasure a live CD named "Live Of The Dead". It has 10 whiskey drenched and razor blade gargled homages to their brutal gift of death metal, courtesy of Spence Riggle, A.D. frontman and bass. Dont think that because this is live it sucks. Well actually it sucks the joy from my heart and throws me into a rage for a world against me. Jeff Riggle blasts the fuck out of the drums and assists in getting those feet a stomping. You have to appreciate that!!! To bring this madness to a head, you have the master of the guitar, Rik Geib. Rik is the one that seems to me to be the demon invoked to put the circle spin in the pit. There is no reason anyone should not hurt after a Animated Dead show. This CD only reflects part of the pain that they bring to their shows and well worth the $5 bucks to purchase. Pay your respects and remember "Jesus Wept!" Probably cause he couldnt handle the pure hate and power of the Animated Dead!!!
